Product Description
FTIR IR Liquid Cells - Sandwich Cells
A sandwich cell consists of two (2) windows separated by a lead spacer that is amalgamated to the windows with mercury. The mercury lead amalgam is impervious to solvents and to virtually any sample. The spacer and windows form a sealed liquid sample compartment. In the case of the SL-2 configuration, the sandwich cell is also amalgamated to an aluminum front plate containing luer-lok syringe filling ports.
Sandwich cells can be used to recondition sealed cells, to have backup or supplemental sealed cells of different pathlengths, or in a demountable cell. You will find sandwich cells that will fit most sealed and demountable cell holders that have been made in the last 25 years.
Universal Compatibility for FTIR SpectroscopyDesigned for broad compatibility, the FTIR IR Liquid Cell fits seamlessly into all leading FTIR spectrometers with a standard cell holder. Its adaptable design accommodates custom window sizes and spacers, making it suitable for a wide range of liquid analysis applications in research and industry.
Precision Construction and Flexible DesignEach cell is built with precision, utilizing optical windows, Teflon or lead spacers, and a robust steel frame. Spacer thickness and window size can be customized, allowing users to optimize path length and sample volume for their specific analytical requirements.
Easy Maintenance and Chemical ResistanceRoutine disassembly and cleaning are straightforward, extending the lifespan of each cell and minimizing cross-contamination risks. The materials selected are resistant to most common solvents and acids, further enhancing durability and versatility.
FAQs of FTIR IR Liquid Cells Sandwich Cells:
Q: How do I assemble and clean the FTIR IR Liquid Cell Sandwich Cell?
A: To assemble, position the optical windows and the desired spacer between the steel frame components, securing them with the provided fasteners. Disassemble in reverse order for cleaning. Rinse components with suitable solvents compatible with your window material, then dry thoroughly before reassembly.
Q: What instruments are compatible with this liquid cell?
A: This liquid cell is compatible with all major FTIR spectrometers that feature a standard cell holder, ensuring versatile usage across different laboratory setups.
Q: When should I consider changing the spacers or windows?
A: Change spacers or windows if you require a different path length, observe physical damage, or notice signal deterioration due to contamination or scratches. Regular inspection after each use helps maintain optimal performance.
Q: Where can I use this FTIR IR Liquid Cell Sandwich Cell?
A: The cell is suitable for laboratory environments where FTIR spectroscopy of liquids is performed. It is widely used in research institutes, chemical analysis labs, and quality control departments.
Q: What is the process for loading a sample into the sandwich cell?
A: Carefully assemble the cell with the chosen spacer, then introduce the liquid sample using a pipette, ensuring not to overfill. Seal the cell by assembling the windows and spacers, making sure there are no leaks before placing it in the spectrometer.
Q: What are the benefits of using a sandwich cell design in FTIR analysis?
A: The sandwich cell design provides precise path length control, easy disassembly for cleaning or component replacement, and compatibility with various sample types. It also minimizes the risk of cross-contamination and delivers consistent analytical results.
