FAQ's of Carbon Residue Apparatus(Rams Bottom):

Q: How does the Rams Bottom Carbon Residue Apparatus work in petroleum testing?

A: The apparatus heats a petroleum sample in a nickel crucible as per ASTM D524 standards. This process vaporizes volatile components, leaving carbon residue, which is quantified to assess sample quality. Manual controls and analog thermometers ensure precise temperature management throughout the procedure.

Q: What is the benefit of using high-grade stainless steel and heat-resistant insulation in this equipment?

A: High-grade stainless steel ensures durability and prevents contamination during high-temperature analysis, while asbestos or ceramic insulation protects users and maintains stable thermal conditions for reliable carbon residue measurement.

Q: When should this apparatus be used for quality control in petroleum laboratories?

A: Use this apparatus when determining carbon residue levels in petroleum products, a crucial quality control step during formulation, blending, and routine laboratory analysis as required by industrial standards.

Q: Where is the Carbon Residue Apparatus ideally operated?

A: The device is designed for indoor laboratory environments where accurate temperature control, safety, and compliance with ASTM D524/IP 13 are necessary for routine testing of petroleum samples.

Q: What is the sample capacity and how is the specimen introduced into the machine?

A: The apparatus is suitable for one specimen at a time, with a maximum sample capacity of 10 ml. The sample is placed into the nickel crucible, which fits securely in the heating vessel for analysis.

Q: What process does the apparatus follow for carbon residue determination?

A: A petroleum sample is introduced into the nickel crucible, heated in the insulated vessel to specified temperatures, and residues are measured post-testing. Over-temperature protection and manual control assist in maintaining testing integrity.

Q: What advantages does manual operation offer during testing?

A: Manual operation allows technicians to closely monitor each stage, ensuring flexibility and immediate intervention if required. This approach supports high accuracy in conformity with established test procedures.
